The Black History Museum & Cultural Center is open 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Wednesday -Saturday and on Sundays by appointment only. Admission costs $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and students with IDs; $6 for children 5-12 years old; and children 4 and under are free. This Juneteenth, we're open and we'd love for you to spend the day with us!

Juneteenth marks the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in this country, and there's no better way to honor it than together, in community, surrounded by the stories that built us.

Join us for Songs of Truth from 11am to 1pm, a program of music and reflection that carries the spirit of the day. After that, we'll be open for regular hours, so come through, take your time, and soak it all in.
..and don't forget to stop by the gift shop while you're here. We've pulled together some special finds just for Juneteenth, so you can take a piece of the celebration home with you.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to a close, we recognize the successes of all the teams and celebrate one of our own victors close to home ⚽️

Dante Washington didn’t just play college soccer in Virginia. He rewrote the record books here. At Radford University, he became the most decorated player in school and Big South Conference history, finishing with 82 goals and 66 assists. That assist total still stands as an NCAA all-time record. He led the nation in scoring, earned First-Team All-American honors, and carried Radford to its first conference title.

From the Virginia pitch, he went on to the 1992 Olympics, a 13-year pro career, and history as the first Black player to score for the U.S. National Team.

So while the World Cup reminds us how far this game can take you, we’re proud to remember where the journey ran through: right here in Virginia.

Afterward, we’ll gather at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia to talk about ways to bring these local stories into your classroom and connect students to the history happening right in their own community.
