Are you a Holocaust survivor—or a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of one?

We invite you to take part in the Legacy Portrait Project, a Museum initiative documenting survivors and their families across Virginia.

Portrait sessions will take place in Richmond, Tidewater, and Roanoke. There is no cost to participate.

The completed portraits will be exhibited next year at the Virginia Holocaust Museum and at locations across the Commonwealth.

Be photographed. Be remembered. Help ensure these stories endure.

At the Virginia Holocaust Museum, history doesn’t sit behind glass—it speaks to you.

Through Dimensions in Testimony, visitors can “meet” Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, a Holocaust survivor and former member of the Auschwitz women’s orchestra, and ask her questions in real time.

Her answers are drawn from her own recorded testimony—so her voice, her memory, and her truth are still here to be shared.

This is not just learning history. It’s an encounter with a life that refused to be erased.

Throughout May, experience the powerful story of Holocaust survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch in our Dimensions in Testimony Theater at the Virginia Holocaust Museum.

Born in Germany in 1925, Anita survived both Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen — saved in part by her talent as a cellist, performing in the Auschwitz women’s orchestra. Today, she continues to share her story so the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.

Step inside our interactive theater this month and ask Anita your own questions through groundbreaking AI technology designed to preserve survivor testimony for future generations.
