We are so grateful for the support from Architecture Incorporated for our upcomng Lakota Ethnobotanical Garden.

Together with additional support from the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, we are excited to share a space with our community offering education and access to native plants and their benefits.

Another recipient from our 50th anniversary giving initiative is The Journey Museum in Rapid City, SD! 🖼️🎨

The museum explores nearly two billion years of history across the Black Hills and prairies of Western South Dakota. Dedicated to preserving and bringing the region's past to life, the museum showcases a wide range of stories and heritage through artifacts, exhibits, and interactive experiences.

Our donation will support the museum's first Lakota ethnobotanical garden, Lakota Landscapes. The garden and accompanying field guide will highlight the plant knowledge of the Lakota people and its connection to their culture. The project is rooted in the lifelong ethnobotanical work of Oglala Sioux Tribe member Richard T. Sherman's and will include educational programs for all ages. 🌱🌾

The project is expected to be completed in September.

Thank you to author Matt Davis for sharing stories and insights from his new book, A Biography of a Mountain: The Making and Meaning of Mount Rushmore, as part of our Monumental Memories program series.

We love bringing people together to explore the history of the Black Hills, ask thoughtful questions, and see familiar places from new perspectives. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this such a meaningful conversation!

Dakota STEAM Learning will lead an engaging activity where you’ll design a pulley system to deliver “tools” to a carving site.

The Journey Museum remembers and honors the legacy of Stan Adelstein, who helped bring the vision of The Journey Museum to life.

Thanks to his generosity and determination, both the local community and visitors can enjoy this unique cultural treasure.

His passion for the histories, lands and cultures of the Black Hills is still carried on in the work of the Journey Museum.

Join author Matthew Davis at The Journey Museum for a fascinating look at Mount Rushmore—how it was created, what it represents, and how monuments shape the way we remember the past.

His book, a Biography of a Mountain, is for sale in our Gift Shop and Matt will be available for signing after the event.

The Journey Museum is seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded Marketing & Events Coordinator to promote the museum, coordinate events and facility rentals, and strengthen connections throughout the Black Hills region.

Most importantly, applicants should possess a deep love for the Black Hills region and a passion to share it's unique stories.

This hands-on position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety. You may create social media content, design promotional materials, update the website, coordinate an event, assist a rental client, or welcome a visiting group—all while working with a collaborative museum team.
