It’s hot, and for many of us, we’ll be running to one of the local coffee shops to cool off with an iced coffee. Surprisingly, our great-grandparents reached for iced coffee too! Recipes are in cookbooks dating back to the 1820s and became common by the 1910s, where “thoughtful hostesses” were encouraged to mix cooled coffee with chilled milk and sugar.

These fun iced coffee advertisements are from 1937, 1946 and 1957

Due to the high heat, the museum will be closed today. We hope the weather cools so we can be open next weekend. In the meantime, enjoy this 1968 advertisement from Look Magazine. What a shame air conditioners no longer come in bright colors to match curtains…

Due to the high heat predicted for this weekend, the museum will be closed on Saturday. Most of our historic buildings are not air-conditioned, making it unsafe for our guests and volunteers.

Enjoy this mid/late 1920s picture of folks cooling off at Mission Beach. Stay safe, stay cool, and we’ll see you soon!

It’s only 7ish weeks until Main Street is mobbed with happy families for Main Street Trick or Treat! The museum will once again bring opening the gates to welcome little ghosts and ghouls!

We know there are a lot of non-profits who would love to participate in Main Street Trick or Treat, but they don’t have a location that is near the crowds. We invite them to join us at the museum - it’s no cost, but you need to bring your candy and table decorations. We have the tables and chairs.

Please message us if your non-profit would like to participate with a booth at the museum

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our September 11th Remembrance and History Talk. It was a meaningful time of reflection, remembrance, and coming together as a community.

A special thank you to Matt and Richard for sharing their personal experiences and telling us what it was like at Ground Zero. Their stories gave us a powerful and personal perspective on that day.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our local first responders who took the time to attend and show their support. We are incredibly grateful for their service, dedication, and the sacrifices they make for our community every day.
