When history touches today! Today there were visitors to the DH. One of them told us the story of a relative who was a third class passenger on the Titanic. The young man left his home in Ireland to join his brother in NYC. He never made it to the States, and sadly his body was never identified. RIP and you were remembered today.

Thank you to the PSEG team who fixed the leaning pole in front of Drake House today. It was a lot of work. Also, thanks to Plainfield DPW for your work on this, and to the NJ State Police officer who was guarding the work area. Progress and another disaster prevented. One pole replaced and one pole stabilized for now. Thanks for reinstalling the overhead light. This old Historic House appreciates all of you. PSEG

Feeling grateful today. During the storm, a tree went down at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church. Grateful that it missed all gravestones. This was near the area where Caesar was buried. Caesar's gravestone is safe. Thank you, Rev. Chaz for letting us know.

Public Notice: The Drake House will be closed tomorrow, Sunday, July 5, 2026, due to the excessive heat and yesterday's storm. The Drake House is safe. Plainfield DPW listened last year, and took down some trees which has helped in the recent storms. Thank you Plainfield DPW workers - we are grateful for you! A clean up of the parking area will begin on Monday. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please stay safe and cool. Praying our friends without power that it is restored soon.

Beating the heat today at the Linden Public Library. There was a presentation by Ms. Leanne, who was a former intern, later trustee, and officer of the Historical Society of Plainfield. She is a senior librarian at the Linden Public Library. Her presentation was on Colonial Baking: Cookies, Hobnail cookies. The HSP brought along some artifacts to show the attendees, including the 18th century toaster. Thank Ms. Leanne for this opportunity, and Ms. Mary Lou who joined me on this road trip.

Today the Scotch Plains Revolution 250 Celebration was held with a Ceremoney and Wreath Laying at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church. Caesar and Nathaniel Drake were among the Revolutionary War Soldiers who were honored. Both of their grave sites now have RW flag markers. Thank you to the sponsors who made sure Caesar and Nathaniel were honored at today's events. Thank you to Rev. Chaz for always remembering Caesar.
