About the Paine Art Center and Gardens:

The Paine is a historic estate that serves as a multi-faceted museum for learning and inspiration. The museum preserves the mansion, surrounding architectural structures, and many of the interiors as they were created by founders Nathan and Jessie Kimberly Paine. Selections from the museum’s art collection, much of which was acquired by Nathan and Jessie, a

re featured in the many rooms and settings of the estate. Outdoors, the Paine maintains and enhances numerous display gardens as “galleries” of horticulture with varied designs and thousands of plant specimens. In addition, the museum presents a wide variety of changing art exhibitions, from historical to contemporary, within the estate’s galleries and gardens. The Studio, located on the house’s lower level, offers “hands on” activities about architecture, art, and gardens for people of all ages.

Alphonse Mucha was one of the undisputed masters of Art Nouveau prints, producing some of the movements richest and most iconic posters. His intricate designs, every inch packed with ornamental detail and pattern, became hallmarks of Art Nouveau's aesthetic of overabundance.

Come and see Mucha's works "Laurel" and Ivy" featured in Paine's Main Gallery as part of "The Triumph of Nature: Art Nouveau from the Chrysler Museum of Art." The exhibition is on view through October 4!

Newly added to the Paine’s collection is a stunning Drophead Dragonfly Floor Lamp by Tiffany Studios, now on view in the Mears Gallery and perfectly at home alongside "The Triumph of Nature: Art Nouveau from the Chrysler Museum of Art."

Created at the height of the American Art Nouveau movement, the lamp features a luminous orange shade encircled by multi-hued dragonflies and accented with polished glass cabochons. Its bronze base, with graceful, unfurling plant-inspired forms, makes it one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau design in the Paine’s collection.

See this extraordinary work up close on the second floor of the mansion, and plan your next visit at thepaine.org.

There's a reason the artworks featured in "The Triumph of Nature: Art Nouveau from the Chrysler Museum of Art" nestle so naturally into the Paine mansion. The Paine's permanent collection features many Art Nouveau works as well, creating surprising connections throughout the historic home.

Look for exquisite Tiffany lamps in nearly every room. In the Breakfast Room, admire "Flora and Fauna," a graceful, nature-inspired decorative railing, along with wall sconces and a chandelier whose design was likely inspired by the ginkgo tree just outside the window!🌿

Nature was one of the defining inspirations of the Art Nouveau movement, shaping everything from furniture and decorative arts to glass and ceramics.

However, Art Nouveau artists didn't look to neatly trimmed gardens for inspiration. They embraced twisting vines, tangled roots, wildflowers, and woodland forms. "The Triumph of Nature: Art Nouveau from the Chrysler Museum of Art," on view at the Paine in Oshkosh, features more than 120 treasures showcasing this fascination with the natural world.

As you wander the historic mansion, you'll see how furniture, glass, and decorative arts come alive with flowing lines and organic details, transforming interiors into lush artistic environments bursting with movement, beauty, and imagination.

During your next visit to the Paine, take a moment to pause and look around. You might be surprised by what catches your eye!

One of the things that makes the Paine so special is that there's always something new to discover. From the intricate woodwork to the purposely imperfect leaded glass windows, every space was designed with care and craftsmanship that can only be found in a historic home.
