Babylon System is a group exhibition of work by local, regional, and international artists-all created on 7.5 x 7.5 inch sheets of blotter paper. Tiny squares, big ideas. Expect a visual delight and a healthy respect for the grid as both structure and launchpad.
710ERS OMAHA invited a group of artists to produce work on blotter paper, subtly dismantling and nodding to the white cube itself. Some artists are contributing from as far away as Japan and California, though most are local and regional. He enlisted help from Washington-based DIY home vinyl lathe wizard “Vinyl Daddy” (aka-Mike) to create a 7-inch, turntable-playable polycarbonate record featuring a live recording of “Alice D. Millionaire” by the Grateful Dead-a song performed only twice and never officially pressed. The world’s first playable sheet of acid. Hear what you see, see what you hear. The track is a tribute to Owsley Stanley (“The Bear”), once dubbed by the media as the “Acid King.” 710ERS paired the record with a photo collage of vintage newspaper clippings about Stanley, printed on blotter paper. The result: a true DIY picture disc that fully embodies the spirit of the day.
Each one is packaged in classic acid-tab fashion-foil-wrapped and sealed in a ziplock, in lieu of a traditional record sleeve. Five different image variations will be available. Collect them all!
