The Ocean City Museum Society is pleased to support our friends at the Worcester County Historical Society!

Join WCHS on Saturday, November 7, for their Fall General Meeting and Luncheon, featuring our very own Nancy Gaither, museum aide at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, as the guest speaker. Nancy will present “Secrets of Assateague,” exploring Assateague Island’s natural and cultural history and its ever-changing landscape.

The historical society has been a wonderful supporter of our museums, and we are grateful for the grants they have awarded us to support our work preserving and sharing local history.

This past week, the Museum Society was delighted to welcome a group from the Worcester County Library. Guests took part in an immersive educational program focused on the history and daring rescues of the U.S. Life-Saving Service.

Following the presentation, visitors toured the museum’s other exhibits and spent time in our aquarium room, observing local wildlife up close and discovering more about the surrounding marine ecosystem.

We had a wonderful time Friday night with historian and magician David Dellman! David combined fascinating stories about Ocean City’s history with incredible magic tricks, making it an entertaining evening for everyone.

Coming Up Next: Young Magicians Workshop!

Join David on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM for a fun, hands-on magic workshop designed for youth ages 11–17!

Participants will have the chance to unleash their inner magician while learning the secrets behind classic magic tricks, including:

Card magic
Rope magic
Mind reading

Along the way, young magicians will develop stage presence, presentation skills, and confidence in a fun and welcoming environment.

Over the past few weeks, our educators have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in various community outreach events!

We had the privilege of hosting an interactive station at Rec Trek during the 2026 Maryland Outdoor Recreation Summit. Visitors to our table learned about the history of the U.S. Life-Saving Service, coastal station locations, and remarkable local shipwrecks and rescues.

The Ocean City Museum Society was also delighted to participate in Harbor Day at the Docks, an annual celebration of Worcester County’s rich maritime legacy. Our educators engaged with the community by sharing fascinating insights into the Eastern Shore’s natural history and our region’s heroic life-saving heritage.

The Ocean City Museum Society is excited to announce that nominations are open for our annual Spirit Award!

Ocean City’s story lives on through the passion and dedication of our community. The Spirit Award honors an individual or organization that has made significant strides in preserving and celebrating our town's cultural or natural heritage.

Preservation comes in many forms, and we want to highlight work across all disciplines, including:

Written Documents: Historical research, memoirs, archives, or recorded local histories.

Structural Preservation: Restoration or protection of historic buildings, landmarks, and physical sites.

Artistic Renderings: Visual arts, music, or creative works capturing Ocean City’s past and identity.

Educational Materials & Interpretation: Programs, exhibits, curriculum, or guided experiences that inform and inspire.

Whether it's a neighbor restoring a piece of local architecture, an educator designing local history lessons, or an organization safeguarding our coastal environment, we want to hear their story.

One of our favorite things at the museum is when people walk through our doors with a story to tell.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Nick D'Alesandro, whose family has deep ties to Baltimore and Ocean City. Nick stopped by to ask a question and ended up staying a while to share memories and stories about his family.

These conversations are such an important part of what we do. History isn’t just found in photographs, documents, and artifacts. It lives in the memories of the people who experienced it and in the stories passed down from loved ones.

We love hearing about the families, businesses, neighborhoods, and everyday experiences that have helped shape Ocean City over the years.
