Various photos of the 1968 Southwest Suburban Soapbox Derby race held in Bridgeview near 79th Street and Oketo Avenue. Over 3,000 spectators watched Mark Farbin take first place in the event. Communities included in the derby were Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, Chicago Ridge, Worth, Bridgeview, Alsip, Crestwood, Palos Heights and Palos Park.

Emily 'Nan' Fletcher with her daughter Hilda outside the Fletcher home in 1929. Harry Fletcher was an Oak Lawn resident from about 1910 to 1971. Fletcher built the home which still stands at 9300 S. 52nd Avenue. He was a carpenter who immigrated to the U.S. from England in 1909. He became Oak Lawn's first policeman in 1915, a WWI veteran, and he held other Village positions over the years.

After World War II, U.S. veterans returning home were offered the GI Bill, which gave them financial assistance to go to college and buy housing. Veterans all over Chicago began buying homes in the suburbs, and the period of the mid-1940s throughout the 1950s was Oak Lawn's biggest period of development. Here are various photos of Pine Tree Trailer Park, a mobile home community once located at 9446 South Raymond Avenue, where Village Hall is now. Pine Tree was established sometime in the 1950s and lasted until 1989, when it was demolished to build the Village Hall. It was a lovely trailer park with mature trees and Stoney Creek winding through it.

Dr. Thomas Powell being sworn as Mayor in at the Oak Lawn Village Hall in 1973. Powell was mayor for a short time after defeating Fred M. Dumke. The results were later reversed by a court decision and recount.
