We are now accepting submissions for ☀️ Made with the Sun! ☀️ This pop-up exhibition celebrating artwork created in collaboration with the Sun will be on view during Helios: The 6th Annual Public Arts Festival on November 6th & 7th!

The exhibition is open to all artists with priority given to ODU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Learn more and submit your artwork by October 1st at barryartmuseum.odu.edu/helios.

The countdown to HELIOS is on! Join us November 6th and 7th for Helios: The 6th Annual Public Arts Festival @ ODU - Old Dominion University! ✨️☀️

This year, we're welcoming back Luke Jerram, the artist behind the "Museum of the Moon" and "Mars" artworks featured at our 1st and 2nd Public Arts Festivals. His newest piece is an inflatable sculpture of the Sun at a scale of 1:200 million, entitled ☀️"Helios"☀️, and it will be making its first appearance in North America at the Barry Art Museum!

Stay tuned for announcements of live performances and music, glass blowing demonstrations, hands-on activities, a special "Made With the Sun" exhibition, food trucks, a vendor market, and more!

We were thrilled to give an extra special hard hat tour to our former executive director, Charlotte Potter Kasic, along with some of her team from Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD!

We join the art community in mourning the loss of Paul Marioni. An icon and trailblazer of the American studio glass movement, Paul spent his life pushing the boundaries of what glass could do and the stories he could tell through it. His legacy lives on through his incredible painted glass vessels, his profound impact on generations of students, and his Lifetime Achievement Award from the Glass Art Society. Paul's glass artwork will be back on view at the Museum when we reopen in 2027.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Stephen "Steve" Koob's passing. Steve was a world-renowned conservator, artist, author, and lecturer whose tenures at the Corning Museum of Glass and the National Museum of Asian Art at the Smithsonian cemented him as a leading expert in his field. For us, Steve's memory lives on in our Waitzer Collection. In 2023, Steve helped repair several glass pieces for our PERSPECTIVES exhibition that debuted the collection, and the pieces will be back on view when we reopen in 2027.

We are incredibly saddened by the loss of Elwood "Woody" Robinson. Woody was an artist and theatre designer who served as the facilities manager of Old Dominion University Theatres for over 30 years. He could often be found in his workshop which can be seen here in miniature, made by Woody himself for our Dollhaus exhibition in 2024. Woody will be incredibly missed by all who knew him.
