I am inspired by my travels to Ireland, life in Norfolk, MA, and sailing on Narragansett Bay. I was first introduced to fine art by my aunt in the mid-80s. I painted in fits and bits, on and off over the next thirty five years. Very little of those years were ‘on’ and the times I did paint, it was very unfocused. Life would get in the way, I would get discouraged, distracted, and I would put it as
ide. Painting was always in the back of my mind, like an itch that couldn’t be scratched. I was (and am) always drawn back to it. I look at a beautiful scene and am hit with the urge to capture the feeling and the mood that a picture doesn’t always convey. Painting is my filter. I love landscape paintings. Traveling with my husband and family to Inish More, Aran Islands, Ireland leaves me with images that make my heart sing and my every cell long to paint. As I drive down the streets of my little town, a well planted garden, an unexpected color, a beautiful sunset, or the fall foliage can make me pull over with my camera to take a reference photo for future paintings…sorry to any of my local friends who had to dodge me and my flashing hazard lights : ). As a sailor, I am also drawn to the sea, boats, and the coastlines of Narragansett Bay. I am looking forward to creating boating and coastal scenes soon. I am happy and lose myself when I have the opportunity to paint. I prefer not to say it’s my dream. Dreams are ethereal and can be or seem unattainable. Painting is my ‘Thing’. I truly believe everyone has and needs a Thing. A Thing that is their own, a Thing that makes them happy and gives them focus. So, rather than saying 'follow your dreams', I hope you find your Thing and I would love to hear about your journey. Thank you for being part of mine.
