๐ฃ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ!๐ฃ
๐As we looked forward to moving the museum upstairs into the old library, we took a hard look at the historic building itself. What needs to be fixed and updated to transform it into a building that can safely exhibit and house the museumโs artifacts? Our first concern became the original storm windows on the 1914 Carnegie Library Building.
โ๏ธWe received approval from the city council to fund the repair of the 48 storm windows. We sent the project out to bid, and we did not receive any bids the first time. We tried again and received ๐๐๐ bid back, but the price was ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ higher than the amount approved for the project. We knew that wasnโt a feasible amount.
๐กWhile disappointed, we continued the discussion, and more ideas were proposed. The director of the museum contacted Bob Yapp, a nationally known historic preservationist. Mr. Yapp agreed to come help us โSave the Stormsโ with a Historic Storm Window Restoration Workshop! In fact, he is so excited, heโs donating three new storms to replace the ones that are missing.
โWhat does this mean, and what is needed? We need ๐๐๐, our community, to help make this happen. One thing we have heard over and over again from the community was, โWhy donโt you have volunteers help instead of coming to the city for more money?โ Well, we are here, asking for volunteers to help. Now is your chance to help preserve a historic building, ๐๐๐๐ Historic Building! In the process, you will save money, learn a new skill, build relationships with your neighbors, and be a part of history!!
๐
The workshop is 8am-5pm, over three days, Oct. 9-11.
๐ฒCost for the workshop is $100 or $50 for Friends of the New London Public Museum.
