Are you ready to join student scholars from across Alabama in sharing their historical research for an opportunity to compete on the national level? Alabama History Day invites students to dive deep into their selected topic of interest and present their findings as documentaries, exhibits, websites, papers, or performances. We can't wait to see the incredible projects inspired by this year's theme, "Rights and Responsibilities."

Join us April 11, 2025, at Troy University in Montgomery, our new location, as we celebrate the power of student research and creativity. Winners will qualify to compete at the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland, College Park, June 8-12, 2025!

Today, we honor the beginning of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the founding of the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA). The MIA was not initially seeking full integration on public transportation but instead were asking for 1) courtesy from bus drivers, 2) first-come, first-served seating, and 3) the hiring of Black drivers for predominantly Black neighborhoods. As negotiations broke down, the push became to change the segregation laws on public buses. The bus boycott would go on to last 382 days and would bring legal, social, and economic change to Montgomery.

Sixty-nine years ago this evening, Mrs. Rosa Parks was arrested for courageously refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a public Montgomery city bus. While not the first to be arrested, hers was the catalyst that sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She would later state, "The only tired I was, was tired of giving in." Let us continue to honor the life and legacy of Mrs. Parks and the countless other brave men and women who made the 382-day bus boycott a success!
