Visit the Museum's current special exhibition, "Lina Bertucci: Railroad Voices—The Milwaukee Road, 1974–1977," to discover the world of the 20th century railyard. As one of the first women to work on the rails of the Milwaukee area, Bertucci captured an industry on the cusp of change with her camera and photographic skills.

We’re cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers as they compete in the World Series! Baseball has long been an important part of our city’s history, and we can’t wait to see the Brewers shine on the national stage.

The featured photo is from our 2025 exhibition: Going to Work for the Community: A Visual History of the Beckum-Stapleton Little League. James Beckum, pictured here, played in Milwaukee's Negro Leagues and co-founded of the Beckum-Stapleton Little League in 1964.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Gallery Night opening of Lina Bertucci: Railroad Voices—The Milwaukee Road, 1974–1977. We were grateful to be joined by Lina, Cindy, and Karina as they shared stories from their time working on the Milwaukee Road.

Cindy Angelos was the first woman to work as a brakeman in the Milwaukee Road yards, followed by Lina Bertucci. The aunt and niece began their railroad careers on the same day in 1974; Lina's sister, Karina, joined them in 1976, forming an unusual family trio in railroad operating positions.

Visit the exhibition on Saturday, October 17, 12-6 PM and receive free admission for Gallery Day. Railroad Voices will be on view through December 20.

When you think of the great photographic chroniclers, you might think of the WPA photographers like Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks and Margaret Bourke-White. There's a case to add Milwaukee native Lina Bertucci to the list, too. Read more about why here ⬇️
