Sculpture Milwaukee is an annual outdoor urban sculpture experience in Downtown Milwaukee. The largest outdoor art gallery displaying 22 sculptures from artists all over the world. On display along Wisconsin Avenue in Downtown Milwaukee, from June – October 22.

Augustas Serapinas’ practice is invested in recomposing public spaces in order to foreground and problematize the assumptions that shape them. By doing so, he uncovers hidden dynamics of social hierarchy, economy and memory inherent to objects that are passed unacknowledged.

Standtune takes its name from a traditional fence style from the island of Gotland, Sweden — a building technique kept alive by a small group of local craftspeople. Historically, standtune structures functioned primarily as boundary and enclosure systems, though they may also have served defensive purposes. For Sculpture Milwaukee, Serapinas explains: “I essentially built the same fence, just with curves.” Made from locally sourced birch, the roughly 40 foot long sculpture no longer divides anything. It asks what we hold onto, what traditions we keep alive, and what we let go.

Yuichi Yokoyama chose to use sequential images of manga because, as he puts it, it lets him “draw time.” His approach — often called “neo-manga” — strips away conventional storytelling and emotion in favor of pure motion, rhythm, and transformation.

This large-scale billboard is his first public installation in the United States. It comes from Neo Manyo (PIE International, 2023), a book in which 22 manga stories reimagine classical Japanese waka poetry through Yokoyama’s visual imagination — drawing from sources including the 8th-century anthology Man’yōshū, one of Japan’s oldest surviving poetry collections. The scene shown here depicts a ship moving through churning water. The bold lettering across the center — ドドド(dododo) — is onomatopoeia for the roar of waves, a sound made visible. The poem accompanying this scene was written by the Buddhist monk Sami Mansei (early 8th century): “How shall I liken this world? It is like a boat that rows away at dawn, leaving no trace behind.”

Originally created in 1974 on the bank of the Tama River in Japan, Law of Immutability places poly bags directly onto existing stones found on site, combining the natural and the manufactured, heaviness and lightness, solidity and vulnerability, in a quiet, open-ended dialogue. This work asks what happens when familiar materials are simply placed together, without transformation, and allowed to be — how relationships between things emerge, how we perceive the world.

Sculpture Milwaukee is pleased to present Power of the Margins, the organization’s tenth annual exhibition of free outdoor public art in the streets of downtown Milwaukee. Now on view, the 2026 exhibition celebrates the vitality of artistic communities working outside the major cultural capitals and the distinct creative strategies they develop as a result.

Evolving out of conversations between Sculpture Milwaukee and a group of international curators and artists, the exhibit brings together seven works in various media by artists from the Baltics, Japan, and Milwaukee.

We’re thrilled to welcome the U.S. premiere of this acclaimed Polish documentary, specially translated for its first American screening at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin.

The film explores the extraordinary life and work of Magdalena Abakanowicz, the visionary artist behind the monumental sculpture that has stood outside the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin since 2001.
