Miller Monday!

Next up is Alyssa Hardy aka me!

Hi I am Alyssa! I have worked at the mill since July 4th of 2020. I am from Berryville VA, but I am currently in college at Christopher Newport University. I am majoring in Psychology and History with minors in Criminology and Leadership Studies. Because I am college now I still help the mill by running the page and when I am home I plan on going to the mill and helping out. My favorite thing to do at the mill is walk the wheel or open the water gate when we start our grinds!

Miller Monday:
This week is, Katherine McKenney!

Katherine comes to us from Stephenson. She first heard about volunteering at the Mill when her mom heard that the Mill was looking for volunteers. Her friends Alyssa and Taryn, who also volunteer at the Mill also told her about it, so she decided to give it a try. While she enjoyed helping out in all areas of the Mill, talking to the visitors who come into the Mill is what she enjoys most.

Miller Monday: Next is Joe!

I started volunteering at the Mill in the last Century when my brother Mark was making the Mill video. I helped then Miller Dave Via replace the pine shims on the main shaft with oak. I have done a little of everything in the mill, including lots of minor repairs. I was the de facto head Miller for several years. I used to do a lot of bagging after the grind, using a proper millers knot. At only age 84 (going-on 100) I now work mainly the first floor. I also set up the bar for our famous Patrons night.

It's Miller Monday: Next up is Nolan!

"Hey, my name is Nolan, and I'm in high school. I like coming to the mill because I like working with the people, I also love the environment at the mill. One of my favorite things about volunteering at the mill is just going and hanging out with the people that come into the mill and the other volunteers. I would say my favorite task at the mill is bagging because it's a great way to socialize while also being productive."

Meet the Millers Monday! Say hi to Kaden! Kaden is 14 years old and has been at the mill for a little over a year. He is going to be a freshman at a school in Wi******er. His favorite thing about the mill is walking the wheel, and in general its long lasting impact in the local community. Kaden's advice for new mill volunteers: "For someone new I would just tell them to ask a lot of questions and to learn as much as you can."
