CONNECTED BY THE OCEANS
Water does not divide us—it connects us.
For centuries, the world’s five oceans have served as ancient highways, carrying seeds, spices, ingredients, culinary traditions, techniques, and cultures from one shore to another. Through these movements, food became a language capable of connecting people across continents.
At the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, Key West stands as an extraordinary maritime crossroads—a place where cultures, flavors, and stories have converged for generations.
The 2027 Key West Food & Wine Festival embraces this unique geography to explore how ocean currents, migration, and cultural exchange have shaped global culinary traditions across five continents.
At the heart of this vision is the work of Contemporary Cuban artist Humberto Castro, whose Ocean Eyes becomes a visual expression of this interconnected world. Through Castro’s distinctive artistic language, the ocean becomes more than a geographical space—it becomes a living force that connects cultures, histories, and human experiences.
The project is curated by Studio Fine Cuban Art to Collect, under the direction of Alaen Ledesma Fernandez, in collaboration with Latin American Art Magazine, CubanDiaspora ArtsFoundation and the Dolce Events & Marketing
Connected by the Oceans celebrates the belief that while oceans may separate continents, they have always connected us through food, art, culture, and the shared human journey.
