Did you know that Vogue was already telling the story of shoes over 130 years ago?
While researching rare fashion publications in THE SHOE VAULT archives, we uncovered what may be one of Vogue’s earliest editorial features dedicated entirely to footwear.
Published on December 28, 1893, these extraordinary pages explore shoes from around the world—not simply as fashion, but as reflections of culture, history, craftsmanship, and everyday life.
Long before footwear became a luxury obsession, Vogue recognized that every shoe carried a story.
At the MIAMI Shoe Museum, discoveries like these remind us that preserving footwear also means preserving human history.
