Happy Birthday to Robert Johnson, a 2025 Memphis Music Hall of Fame Inductee, who was born on this date in 1911. One of the greatest blues performers of all time, a recognition that came largely after his death in 1938 at the age of 27. A bluesman who recorded 29 songs, resided with family, and moved in and out of Memphis… his songs have been recorded by Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, and others.

Happy Birthday to Johnnie Taylor, a 2025 Memphis Music Hall of Fame Inductee, who would have been 92 years old today. Known as "The Philosopher of Soul," Taylor's career began in gospel music with Sam Cooke and The Soul Stirrers. He later joined Stax Records in 1966, where he recorded over a dozen chart-topping hits, including the million-seller "Who’s Making Love."

On this day in 1885, Lucie Campbell was born in Duck Hill, Mississippi. She is recognized as one of the most important composers of African American religious music. As a pioneering figure, Lucie E. Campbell linked traditional hymns to modern gospel compositions and helped bridge gender and racial divides within the gospel music community.
