The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum Will Be Closing

The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum has been asked to vacate our space at 545 South Main Street in Central Station where we have been for over a decade. Central Station Hotel needs our space for other purposes, including meeting rooms. We are actively looking for a new location to continue our role as an asset to tourism and education on this important component of Memphis history.
The last day we will be open is Thursday June 30. We invite everyone to visit the museum in June.
The Museum would like to thank the Central Station Hotel, Kemmons Wilson Company, and Henry Turley Company for their generous donation of space for the past several years. We thank our dedicated volunteers as well as everyone who has supported us financially as well as those who have donated or loaned items for exhibit. We appreciate every person who has visited the museum in the past 10+ years.
The Museum is actively looking for a new home to reopen as soon as possible and we are looking for new exhibit items at the new location. We are seeking support to finance this move.
We look forward to seeing you at the new to be determined location.

122 years ago yesterday engineer Casey Jones and fireman Sim Webb took a passenger train that was 3 hours late from Memphis to Canton, Ms. They were running on short rest since the scheduled engineer called out sick. Casey was instructed to make up as much time as he could. Casey and Sim headed south and began making up time. Engineer 382 was operating well and in Sim's account, Casey remarked, "She has high heeled slippers on." Now into April 30, Casey and Sim we coming into Vaughn, 12 miles short of Canton. They were now on time and unbeknownst to them, 2 freight trains had the tracks in Vaughn blocked. The flag man was not far enough back to get the passenger train stopped. Casey rode into the wreck applying the brakes until the end. His last words were "Jump Sim jump" Casey slowed the train enough that all of the passengers and other crew survived with only a few minor injuries. Casey was the only fatality. Come to the museum to learn more about Casey and Sim.
