Connect with nature and discover something wild! Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and was founded in 1967 by Bessie Heard. Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could experience nature. Today, the Heard's mission of bringing nature and people together is carried out through education, particularly of young people, which emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation. Come see the beautiful work of Mary Jo Laughlin, a Texas wildflower artist whose connection to the Heard spans generations.

Her paintings captured the wildflowers she loved with incredible botanical accuracy, and now you can experience her work here at the Heard.

Fall break is for exploring! 🍂🐛🦖

Give your kids a fall break adventure at the Heard! Our Fall Mini Camps let kids ages 3–11 get outside, get hands-on, and discover something new through fun, nature-focused activities.

🐛 Oct. 12: Creepy Crawlies: Meet some creepy crawlies, learn about insects and arthropods, and hit the trails to see what’s buzzing this fall.

🦖 Oct. 13: Dino Camp: Explore paleontology through dino-themed crafts and digs, take an exclusive guided trail through Dinosaurs Live!, and meet a scaly critter!

Each camp runs from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and is $40 for non-members or $35 for Heard members.
Spots are limited, so don’t let fall break fly by! 🍂🌿

A little fright, a lot of fun—and a night just for the grown-ups! 👻

Join us at the Heard for Fright at the Museum on October 16 for a spooky 21+ night featuring a screening of Halloween under the stars, a mini trick-or-treat trail, a haunted forest, food for purchase, and drinks to keep the night going. 🦇

🎟️ Tickets are $39 and include 2 complimentary drinks. Heard members save $5!

Join us on September 26 for Jurassic Night Out, an adults-only evening packed with life-size animatronic dinosaurs, an outdoor screening of the iconic ’90s blockbuster Jurassic Park, delicious food and drinks, live music, and prehistoric fun along our nature trail.
