Thank you to everyone who joined us for our August Pop-in for Family Fun: Made in Marietta! 💪
It was a wonderful day filled with hands-on activities that helped our young visitors learn more about their City of Marietta!
Kids had a great time exploring the galleries with a scavenger hunt to find objects that helped build Marietta, creating airplanes with clothespins and even making their own Big Chicken! 🐔
Our young guests gathered for a special story time with Kelly Young-Silverman who read two of her books: Hot Boiled Peanuts and The Littlest Star. 📖
Grown up visitors got a chance to learn how the Marietta Square was affected by the American Civil War with Buck Buchanan's Smoke Over the Square.
A special thank-you to Cauthorn Sanders & Schmidt for generously sponsoring our monthly Pop-in for Family Fun events. 🙌
We hope you'll join us again on Saturday, September 19th for Pop-in for Family Fun: Music of Marietta! 🎶

What a great event! Thank you to everyone involved.

Filling in the gaps of Marietta's history, one artifact at a time!

Since Lockheed is celebrating its 75th anniversary, here in Marietta, we're excited to share a recent acquisition: a Lockheed employee ID badge belonging to Lois Wooten Brown. Her start date was May 31, 1951!

Lois was born in Telfair County, GA in 1925, and by age 14 her family had settled in Murphy, NC. She later married Lasker Brown, and by the 1950 census, the couple was living right here in Marietta with Lois working as a "pairer" at a hosiery factory, matching and bundling freshly made stockings into perfect pairs by size, shade, and style.

We don't know exactly what Lois did at Lockheed, but given her background, it's tempting to imagine her sorting skills carried right over trading soft stockings for sturdier airplane parts! ✈️

Lois worked at Lockheed for 31 years, retiring in 1982. She passed away last year at the age of 100!

If you know more about Lois or have artifacts of your own to share? We'd love to hear from you!
