Dual Opening August 22nd, Anna Cho-Son, The Other One Never Waits.

Opening reception Saturday August 22nd, 6-9pm

In this series of drawings Cho-Son documents hidden messages and revelations in the desire for and threat of intimacy between bodies. Her figurative drawings mimics anatomical drawings from systematic biological experiments by the Japanese Annexation of Corea and Corean subjects. Entangled by the “colonial cut,” new drawings attempt to re-imagine and re-draw the terms of self, subjectivity, and the utterance of ‘I.’

Fur Film Vol. 2: mirror mirror
Fur Film is a term invented by the artists of ЯeaRflex 後照鏡, (Erica Sheu, Johan Chang, and Tzu-an Wu): a literal translation of 毛 (fur, rough) and 片 (film). It refers to trivial matters, film dailies, and the fragments that accumulate around the process of filmmaking.
For this project, Erica Sheu, Johan Chang, and Tzu-an Wu each shot two rolls of 16mm film and sent them to one another across their respective cities—Los Angeles, Taipei, and Paris—to create double exposures. Across distance, the collaborators’ physical encounters are inscribed through light exposed onto the film emulsion. Vol. 2 continues an ongoing exchange reflecting on diary filmmaking. It meditates on how filmmakers process the mundane, transform it into signs, and begin to mirror one another, creating visual synonyms across time and place.
The installation foregrounds the material process of filmmaking, exhibiting 16mm film loops alongside the projection of the short film.

Stevie 예은

Stevie Choi (they/she) works across sculpture, drawing, and music. Interested in the lived impact felt from accelerated exposure to (mis)information oozing out of technoauthoritarian capitalism, they work to restore the spirit of objects. Objects are imbued with animate capabilities through hands-on methods, material exploration, and collaborative storytelling. These intentions counter the feelings of alienation and fragmentation surrounding material production contaminated by inextricable infrastructures of privatization, commodification, racism, and imperialism.

Choi was the commissioned kite artist for Clockshop’s 4th Annual People’s Kite Festival in 2024. They facilitated and co-facilitated kitemaking workshops at LACMA with Dajin Yoon, Clockshop, Frieze London x Getty PST with Candice Lin, HOLA, Feminist Center for Creative Work with Silvi Naçi, BVCLT, Hiromi Paper, Los Angeles public libraries and schools. They hold a B.A. in Art from UCLA.

Limit’s Supposed to Be the Sky — Stevie Choi

Stevie Choi’s Limit’s Supposed to Be the Sky, is the rekindling of a kitemaking and sculptural practice along the animating push and pull of growth in times of transition. Choi’s material investigation across bamboo, paper, and found objects are experimentations in relationality and imagination, counterweights to feelings of alienation and fragmentation. Deftly characterized materials and orchestrated forms take on lives of their own and find themselves with their arms outstretched and dreams dispersed: splintering bamboo doesn’t mind what you thought was possible; stains and punctures don’t mind what is feasible; soaring spines don’t mind the sky.

Natural Death is a story thread together through the work of 13 artists: Noura Alhariri, Anne Beck, Dan Clauson, Cirilo Domine, Rosemary Hall, Cat Lauigan, Jas Lin, Jules Pierce, yétúndé olágbajú, taisha paggett, Laurie Palmer, Grace Potter and Sarita Doe, curated by Rino Kodama and Dav Bell. Each artist looks deeply into the aliveness of the world’s fissures, through its entanglements, rearrangements, beauty, and persistence to keep going. Originally exhibited at the Mendocino Art Center on November 8th, 2025, on view at ARCANE Space June 6th-July 12th

slow sauntering with the summer’s last gifts
our excess, evidence of life lived to its limits we keep driving, slow cooking and sharing tea chemically rearranging our fears over dinner
i ask for a real hug and you invite me into plein air
we remind each other, it can all be gone so quickly
so we’re left with the fullness of the now we nestle into tangents meet in the metal
steeping time like a whale who moves between hot and cold waters opposite the direction the world turns, against the tides doing all that it can to move us to a halt their outbreath a reminder for us to breathe
as they place clouds into the sky with their warm exhales, a lingering fog to nurse the trees,
bridging histories bonded by all our much ness, laid out on the table

We have all lost something.
The earth reminds us of our mortality daily. As the season shifts, we approach darker months, the colors around get painted anew through natural
abscission. Many of us return to art and poetry to grapple with the immense grief, because answering to, How are you? Without pause, is beyond one. So we attempt to elaborate those caverns in our connections, collaborating with the earth, touching clay, shapeshifting and code switching to new worlds.
Perhaps a natural death does not mean a long life, only a life lived in
coexistence and in honor of each other and all things living deep within the planet. Immense grief means there was immense love.
Choosing to love again after we grieve is one of the greatest gifts we can give to each other. There is not enough language to co
