Adam West left us on this day in 2017. The last time I saw him was in 2014, shortly after the TV series finally came out on DVD and Blu-ray. We had met many times over the years, but I was just one of many familiar faces to him, I'm sure. This day was different. He said, "I know you from somewhere, don't I?" His agent Fred leaned over and said, "Adam, it's Mark. He's on the DVD with you." Adam smiled and said, "Oh, that's right. It's so good to see you again, Mark." And we shook hands.
I thanked him for his work every time I saw him. So many times I could only mouth the words from across a crowded room. He always nodded and mouthed back, "You're welcome."
Without knowing it, Adam--as Batman--was a father figure to me. He helped me through my parents' divorce, and through many other traumatic events in my life. The escapism offered was a welcome relief from the ills of the day.
He continues to be missed by this Batfan, and always will be. Thanks, Adam West. You will always be the Bright Knight.
