Old Jail Museum - Leonardtown Built in 1876 and in use until 1945 by the oldest sheriff’s office in the nation, this building is the 6th of 8 jails/prisons in St. Mary's County history.

One of 4 sites in St. Mary's County on the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Trail. One of the four museums and historic sites operated by the St. Mary's County Museum Division. The St. Mary's County Museum Division is a division of the St. Mary's County Department of Recreation and Parks and St. Mary's County Government. 🚨 Weather Alert – Monday, Feb. 23 Closure 🚨

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for St. Mary's County through 10 a.m. Monday. Heavy, wet snow is expected this evening and overnight, with 4–8 inches possible countywide, gusty winds, potential power outages, and a hard refreeze Monday night. Travel may become difficult to impossible.

❄️ The Snow Emergency Plan is in effect. Please avoid unnecessary travel and stay off the roads to allow emergency responders and snow removal crews to work safely.

Due to inclement weather, St. Mary’s County Government administrative offices will be closed Monday, February 23, 2026, including:

♻️ Convenience Centers & St. Andrews Landfill
🏀 Recreation & Parks programs, facilities*, and museums
🍽 Senior Activity Centers and no home-delivered meals
