🚨 Opens tomorrow!!!

2026 Artist Support Grant ANNOUNCED!
Artists of all disciplines are invited to apply for the 2026-2027 Artist Support Grant from September 1 – 30. This year’s grantees will be awarded $500 - $1,500 in categories including visual arts, music, craft, photography, literary arts, theatre, and more. This regional grant is open to residents of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Iredell, and McDowell counties.

APPLICATIONS OPEN SEPTEMBER 1 and CLOSE SEPTEMBER 30, 2026.

Applicants will apply through an online grant portal. Before doing so, Caldwell County artists must contact Caldwell Arts Council Executive Director Zan Thompson by phone at 828-754-2486 or email [email protected] for an initial review to confirm that the project meets required criteria and to receive instructions for using the grant portal.

Artist spots still open!! We are accepting applications for our Art Crawl on October 9th! This event will also feature our opening reception for Tuckers Gallery; more on that soon!!
Deadline to Apply is September 11th, 2026. Artists will be notified of acceptance by September 25th.
In addition to the Google form, Artists must send a short bio and a minimum of 2 photos of their work to [email protected] to be considered.

“Standing inside the unfinished building at 126 Mulberry St. NW, Caldwell Arts Council Executive Director Zan Thompson can see well beyond the exposed framing, construction materials, and scarred wooden floors.

He sees a spacious shop filled with pottery, paintings, textiles, jewelry, and other work by local artists. He sees galleries large enough to attract statewide exhibitions, classrooms for visual, musical, culinary, and performing arts, and a public meeting room that other community organizations can use.

On the top floor, where crowds once watched performances in the Henkel Opera House and later laced up their skates, he sees an intimate theater coming to life again.

But realizing that vision will require considerably more money, along with time and patience.

The Arts Council bought the building for $635,000 in May 2024, according to property records and the council’s campaign materials. Those materials put the total project cost at $2.5 million, including the purchase. Thompson said council leaders had been told the renovation would cost about $1 million, but he now expects it to cost closer to $3.5 million.”
