Aloha, Tiki friends!
We at Peekaboo Gallery are proud to announce our forthcoming HOLIDAY installment of the EXOTIKON: VINTAGE TIKI AUCTION!
A fantastic collection of vintage POLYNESIAN POP including rare carvings, lighting, historical documents, ephemera, mugs and glassware, artwork and so much more is currently in production for the sale.
Also of note is an exciting gathering we have heard about and are now very happy to represent: THE OCEANIC ARTS - KONA KAI CHICAGO TIKI SALVAGE COLLECTION!
As the TIKI ERA began to wind down in the early to mid 1970s, many corporate Polynesian developments which had been in planning since the mid 1960s were finally reaching fruition. Some say too late and some believe it helped carry the Polynesian Pop era well into the 21st century by sheer will.
The KONA KAI Chicago was one of the last, truly elaborate Tiki temples to be built on a grand scale. It made it well into the 2000s before finally shuttering its doors. It was one of the last large scale Oceanic Arts projects with OA doing the lion share of the design and carving work.
If you are building out your first Tiki bar or putting a refresher with your existing one, there will be pieces in this sale for you! Not only will we have incredible OA architectural art, but also VINTAGE MATERIALS to help give your bar that lived-in TIKI GRAVITAS that only commercially used decor elements can provide. Cigarette tar and dust included!
We’ll keep you updated with items and history as we get closer to auction time!
