Moving apart and coming together, two blades of a pair of scissors are the symbol of the union of a man and a woman, now meeting in love, now parting in quarrel.
Scissor blades opening and closing are a perfect image for the mutual relationship between a man and a woman, and the tension that defines their relationship. They have so much in common and yet are so different in their soft sheen and sharpness, so close and yet so far apart. As a unit, it is inevitable that they will both work together but be forced apart, repeatedly. The rings of the handles are reminiscent of the wedding rings lover's exchange.
One wonders, are they cutting the paper beneath them for writing and rewriting new love letters or are they destroying old ones? Cutting through the thick and thin of living together, the intimacy of sliding against each other of closeness, of touch – and growing in love or contempt… it is the human story.
