https://lorenzosandovalart.etsy.com Hi, I'm Lorenzo Sandoval. I feel in love.

Let Lorenzo Sandoval's Wandering Sensei photography be the center piece of your inner peace. I am honored to bring you some of my favorite photographic prints from my travel around the world. I picked up photography like anyone else, on a whim. How could you not? Photography gives you such a deep appreciation and insight into the world around you. If forces you to be still, pay attention, and pick

up on the detailed intricacies between motion and silence. Besides martial arts, it is the closest thing I have found to heaven. To cultivate a practice that puts mindfulness and staying in the present moment in the foreground of your value system. My style is unique, patient, and is reflective of the deep love for martial arts I have cultivated over the years. Aa a martial arts master and sensei, I am aware of the wondrous appreciation you must have for how your body moves and how you take in your surroundings. You cannot be in the past, you cannot be in the future. If you choose to be in either of those timelines, you miss what's happening right in front of you. With photography, it's exactly the same. You are forced to slow down as much as you are forced to keep up. There is no rush because each moment is perfectly divine and defined by fate. Please subscribe to my blog to learn more about my process with photography, modern art, finding gratitude in the little moments, and all of the wild places I land. With gratitude

Last Light Before the Tide

I took this while I was on the coast for one of my good friend’s weddings. It was cold as hell that evening, and I remember mostly wanting to get out and see the coastline before I lost the light.

Her father walked out there with me. We didn’t really talk much. He just quietly led me along the coast, showing me where to go while I carried my camera and looked for something to shoot.

Then I saw this.

The sun was getting low, the wind was cold coming off the water, and those rocks were just sitting out there against the last bit of light. I stopped, set up my camera, and waited.

It wasn’t some big planned photography trip. I was there because my friend was getting married, and somehow this quiet little walk with her dad turned into one of those moments I got to bring home with me.

Last Light Before the Tide.

The Wandering Turtle 🐢

I shot this just away from the old mill in Little Rock, Arkansas. Two turtles were hanging out on a log, almost like they were playing together. Then one suddenly slipped off, hit the water, and just started swimming away.

I followed him through the camera as he wandered off on his own, surrounded by all those reflections and soft colors in the water. It was such a simple little moment, but that’s what I love about being out with my camera. Sometimes the photograph finds you.

Rainbow Palm Trees

I was walking around Venice Beach shopping for T-shirts when I looked up and saw this sunset. The sky was exploding with color behind the palms. I could smell the ocean and food from the boardwalk, hear the waves, music playing, people talking and bikes rolling past. For a few minutes I forgot about shopping and just stood there watching the colors change. Sometimes the best photographs are the ones you never planned for.

Between Tide and Sky: La Jolla

It was one of those cold La Jolla mornings where you can really feel the ocean in the air. I remember standing there waiting, hands cold, listening to the water move underneath the pier and smelling that heavy salt air coming off the Pacific.

There wasn’t much happening. Just the sound of the waves, the birds in the distance, and that cold breeze coming off the water. I kept waiting, watching the sky slowly change.

Then the light started to show.

The colors softened across the horizon, the water picked up that little bit of glow, and for a few minutes everything just felt still.

Sometimes the most beautiful moments are the ones that simply ask you to stand still and watch.

Guards, Skies on Fire NEW RELEASE!

Standing along the shores of Santa Monica, I watched the sky ignite above the Pacific. The lifeguard tower stood quietly against the horizon as waves rolled through the fading light. For a few brief moments, the entire coast looked like it was on fire.

Old Man Waterfall

We hiked into Old Man’s Cave in Ohio to find this waterfall. It was an easy hike, but we were racing the fading light and almost arrived too late.

As darkness began settling into the forest, we finally reached the falls. The deep greens, the sound of rushing water, and the last soft light of the day created a moment I’ll never forget.

Sometimes you arrive just in time.

Seal on Ocean Rock : by Lorenzo Sandoval. Alone on a weathered rock, the seal waits for the ocean to return. For a moment, everything is still. No wave to carry him, no movement around him, only the quiet space between one tide and the next.

He sits there patiently, watching the horizon, as if waiting for something he knows will eventually come back. Sometimes loneliness is not about being completely alone. It is about waiting for the one thing that makes you feel connected again.

The Distance Between Us

The smell of salt in the air, cameras in hand, waiting for the sun to fall behind the Great Salt Lake. Sometimes the most beautiful part of photography is simply being there, waiting for the light and taking in a moment you know will never happen exactly the same way again.

In 2007 nearly 20 years ago I got my black belt. Now that I travel the world. 🌎 I’m photographing at my old age. In the picture is my sensei mother. And the last image is my uncle who was trained under a Japanese master Ozawa. I saw my uncle school destroyed and now it’s nothing but rubble. We always have unique skills that make us who we are. - Sensei Lorenzo
