Halloween Night at the Museum is Friday and Saturday 6 pm to 9 pm! The weather looks perfect, and lots of fun family activties are on tap - the great National Honor Society Maze, marshmallow roast, spooky stories, the pumpkin slingshots and lots more. $5 per person - cash only. A new addition this year will be a performance by the Lander Valley High School Marching Band on Friday Night. They are going to state competion on Saturday, and are doing a performance to their drill in front of the museum on Friday, so come early to check out these very talented kids - the band plays at 6 pm (no charge for the band performance). The Marching band supporters will also be selling hot dogs and caramal apples at the Halloween event to raise money for the band.

The LVHS National Honor Society students were in over the weekend to create their spooky maze in the livery stable for our Halloween Night at the Museum, which is this weekend! Always one of the highlights of the event, They've created a very "mazey" maze this year. Join us from 6 pm to 9pm Friday and Saturday. Due to scheduling difficulties we won't have the hay ride this year - but all the other fun stuff will be ready - the pumpkin slingshots, the spooky stories, the fortune teller, marshmallow roast, hot chocolate, popcorn and more!

The Wyoming Historical Society had their annual meeting in Lander this past weekend. At their awards ceremony recognizing good historical work around the state, the Fremont County Museum system won an award for Show of the year for our "Rediscover the Winds" podcast - a joint effort between the Lander, Riverton and Dubois Museums. The Lander Museum also won an award - or rather one of our excellent volunteers - McKenzie Lilygren for her dedicated work on helping clean/preserve our J.K. Ralston collection of Chief Washakie paintings. The award she won was "Outstanding Preservation Project 2026." Thanks to the Historical Society for the recognition!

Lookback: Riding the stagecoach

Traveling by stage (or horseback) was the only way to reach Lander until the arrival of the railroad, and here is a shot of a stage coach coming up Beaver Hill.

Beaver Hill had a reputation for being dangerous, with accidents happening often enough that many passengers opted to walk this portion, as you can see them coming up behind the coach. Stage driver is Harry Angelo, photo taken circa 1900.

“Collections Managers Attend Cultural Heritage Institute Conference”
Jami Cannon from the Riverton Museum and Taylor Meadows from the Pioneer Museum attended a Cultural Heritage Tourism Conference in Cheyenne recently.
A part of the conference focused on collections management regarding policies, storage, on-line resources, digitalization processes and programs.
Additionally, there was a focus on historic preservation both of artifacts and historic structures and their interpretation.
Continuing education is an important component for our staff, allowing them to learn and keep up with new trends and technology to help preserve our collections and better present them for the public.
