Before modern celebrity culture, Andy Warhol turned his lens toward history’s icons.
 
One of his most unexpected series, Saint Apollonia, reimagines the patron saint of dentistry through Warhol’s unmistakable pop aesthetic. Created during the 1980s, the series reflects Warhol’s fascination with inspirational historical figures, each transformed into a modern-day “superstar” through his iconic style.

Join us for our latest Artist Talk, drawing on the multidisciplinary exhibition “Gulf Streams: Atchafalaya Remixed”, plus a celebration on the plaza featuring live music by Palmetto, a experimental music project.This program brings together a musician, artist, and folklorist whose practices are each rooted in regional fieldwork – listening to, documenting, and remixing the world around them.
Panelists include:
- Dr. Gwendolyn von Einsiedel, Moderator, Gulf Streams’ Guest Curator, Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair of Traditional Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
- Olivia Luz Perillo, Multidisciplinary Visual Artist

An observer of his surroundings, Pop art legend Andy Warhol constantly captured, remixed, and circulated iconic images of the characters and happenings within his orbit, from the celebrities and parties to his studio happenings, and the quiet in-between moments.

Our permanent collection of Andy Warhol polaroids is now on view.
