Fayette Public Library and Randolph Recreation Center are excited to invite you to our All Ages Talent Show on September 29, 2026 from 5:30–7:00 PM! All talents are welcome, including singing, dancing, acting, painting, jokes, and more. Each participant will receive a big round of applause, and acts are limited to 5 minutes. The Museum and Archives will be open this Saturday, the 28th, but we will be closed the following two Saturdays--first, because of the Labor Day weekend and, second, because Wyatt and Rox Ann have been asked to present a program to the German Texan Heritage Society conference in Columbus on September 12th.

Our program topic will be the Heilig daybook in our Archives, written in German by a young Bluff School teacher from September 1874 to November 1876. He lived with the family of Dr. Albert H. Eck, and writes of numerous local families--for instance, the Kreisches, Nordhausens, Denckers, Stiehls, Rosenthals, Streithoffs, Praetoriuses, Presuns, Seydlers, Willrichs and many others. We're cleaning up the translation now and will be sharing what we've learned in the diary over the next few months.

We are so excited to be partnering with ARTS - Arts for Rural Texas to bring a 10 week long art program to the Library! Students who sign up will be committing to the full course of art classes starting on September 16th and running until November 18th. Classes will be help every Wednesday from 1pm-2pm. Next in our speaker series will be Bobby J. Smith, II with his newly released book, Black Farm Boys: The Untold Story of the New Farmers of America. Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as well as an award-winning author. We met him during his several trips to La Grange to research the Randolph High School Chapter of the NFA and meet with chapter sponsor, Lorenza Crosby. Chapter 4 of the book is "Black Agriculture Teachers Matter: The Randolph NFA Chapter in Texas." We're scheduling the program at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4th here in our meeting room, to coincide with the reunion of the Randolph Alumni Association on Labor Day weekend.

We had great attendance last night at J. T. Koenig's wonderful presentation on early German Texan artists that also included artists with Fayette County connections. Koenig brought pieces from his personal collection, as well as pieces by Bethea Ward in Rodney Koenig's collection. This is the third and final post related to photographs of individuals bought at an estate sale years ago. So far our followers have helped identify two additional photos. The identified families have been mostly in the vicinity of the Haw Creek and Shelby communities and include the Rudloff, Schlabach, Birkelbach, Piel, Schulz, Bernshausen, Meischen, Ehrigsohn, Dorbritz, Bartz, Ullrich, Schwertner, Huebner, Blumrich, Stamman, Aschenbeck, Kelm, and Wagner families. The first few photos are identified, followed by others where we could use some help. Thank you for your interest in this collection!

As a teaser, this is one of the later slides from “Brushstrokes of South Central Texas & Beyond: German Immigrant Artists and the Shaping of Early Texas Art,” that JT Koenig will present here this Thursday evening, the 13th, at 6:30 p.m. The upper right painting of the original tomb at Monument Hill by Bertha Hellman, who was born in La Grange, hangs in the Museum and Archives behind Rox Ann's desk. It will be downstairs on display Thursday evening and JT is also bringing several pieces from his personal art collection. Come join us!
