Some of you have noticed we keep a log of the trains that pass the depot while we are there. Well, the numbers are in for the third quarter of 2026. In July we had 28 trains! 16 of those were rock trains, 3 autorack, 1 manifest (mixture of cars but no passenger cars), 6 LCRA coal trains, 1 train that we forgot to write down the type, and 1 UP track inspector pickup, 15 of those 28 trains were headed north towards West Point, and 13 were headed south towards LCRA, there were 3 BNSF locomotives, 1 CPKC (formerly Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, the two have merged to form CPKC) locomotive, 1 Ferrmox (FXE) locomotive, and 70 UP locomotives. Total number of cars for July was 2694!! August numbers are as follows: 19 trains, 3 LCRA coal trains, 14 rock trains, and 2 manifest. 7 trains headed north, 12 headed south. 4 BNSF locomotives, 1 Ferromex (FXE) locomotive, 3 Ferrosur (FSRR) locomotives, and 56 UP locomotives. Total cars were 1948! Now for September (yes we know the month isn’t over but we don’t reopen until Thursday which is October (already!!)): 16 trains, 7 LCRA coal trains, 6 rock trains, 1 manifest train, 1 autorack train, and 1 Passenger train (if you recall that train paid Gary a visit last weekend!). 7 trains went north, 9 went south. We had 45 UP locomotives and 3 BNSF locomotives pass the depot, and 1745 cars!
For a grand total in the third quarter of 63 trains! 4 manifest, 16 LCRA coal, 36 rock, 1 UP Hyrail Pickup, 1 Passenger train, 4 autorack, and 1 we forgot to write down. 29 went north, 34 went south. 171 UP locomotives, 10 BNSF locomotives, 2 Ferromex (FXE) locomotives, 1 CPKC locomotive, and 3 Ferrosur (FSRR) locomotives. Number of cars was a grand total of 6387! That’s a lot of weight if you think about it!! Yall continue to come see us and continue to watch that rail cam!! Don’t forget about our friends at Flatonia Rail Museum who have a camera downtown at Tower 3 and another at the Tommy Shults Railfan Photo Pavilion where the tracks cross!!
