Ever wonder what it would be like to attend a one-room schoolhouse? Sitting in a rickety wooden desk and writing times tables on a slate like Laura Ingalls? Well wonder no more…come see us on October 17th at the Oak Summit School for our annual open house & yard sale! Our doors will be open for you to step back in time to a simpler era. Additionally, we will have some knick-knacks and treasures set out for sale—all proceeds will go towards further preservation of the school! We hope to see you for a hands on experience of local history and bargain hunting! 🍎📚

We would like to extend our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the family and friends of the late Rick Epstein. He was a champion of local history, a wealth of knowledge, a gifted writer, a steadfast family man and friend, and will go down in history as a true local legend.

We deeply appreciate his participation, support, and the unwavering ready-to-help attitude he has always brought to the society, and will dearly miss seeing him in and out of the school house. Thanks for everything, Mr. Epstein ♥️

Pictured here is a great photo Rick took over 40 years ago of the school in our earlier days of restoration and repair. It still hangs proudly upon Oak Summit’s walls!

Dear Kingwood residents of the past and present,

Did you or a loved one attend Oak Summit School between 1849-1953? Do you have any photographs or stories of the school from those years that you’d like to share? If so, we’d love to see and hear what you’ve got!!

As we approach the 50th anniversary of the formation of Oak Summit School Historical Society in 2029, we would like to compile more photographs, written records, and stories of the bygone era of Oak Summit School to share with the community! 📚✏️🍎

Our town’s traditions and history must be remembered and carried on as each generation comes and goes! So please, feel free to contribute to the past, present, and future generations of Kingwood by sharing your knowledge, records, and stories ❤️
