Join us June 16th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Henderson Library-Jefferson, OH for a presentation on the Ashtabula Train Disaster of 1876.

Twenty-one year old Ashtabula volunteer firefighter Fred Blakeslee worked tirelessly through the night rescuing people from the crash, fire, and frigid water. A professional photographer with a studio on Main Street, went back out to try to document the event; Loading his bulky camera, plates, and sensitizing materials onto his sleigh, he want backout in to the storm, unfriendly to his chemicals and glass plates and captured the first images of the disaster.

Mary Graves and Christy Estok of the Ashtabula County Historical Society have generously agreed to bring their photography equipment of the same era to HMPL to show us how difficult Blakeslee's task was that bleak morning. Please join us to learn more about this aspect disaster in its 150-anniversary year.
