Those who know me know that I am a fly fisherman. Fishing a stretch of stream and working on a piece of art has a similar effect on me that I can only describe as going into the zone. It's a time of intense focus that is very relaxing and hours can go by before I know it. It's fantastic and therapeutic. I am sharing this with you because I had the pleasure of meeting some people this past weekend who are members of the Healing Waters organization. Project Healing Waters began in 2005 serving wounded military service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, the organization has expanded nationwide, establishing its highly successful program in Department of Defense hospitals, Warrior Transition Units, and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and clinics. In short, this organization is made up of good people doing good things to assist others through the world of fly fishing. As a Navy vet, I encourage you visit their website to learn more about this wonderful organization.

I received this note today from a young man whose father sets up next to me at one of the events I attend every year. He is a real good kid and a baseball player so I gave him one of my paintings of "Home Plate in the Off Season" and a couple of note card sets. It sounds like he turned them into some pretty nice collectibles and - he sent me a handwritten note instead of an email...good stuff!
