Volunteer Firemen's Museum-Kingston NY The Volunteer Firemen's Hall and Museum of Kingston is known locally as “a little gem of a museum”. The museum was organized on January 18, 1980 and opened its doors to the public on April 2, 1982 at the Wiltwyck Fire Station.

Museum Hours: April-June 1st~ Friday 11am-3pm and Saturday 10am-4pm June 5th-October 26th~ Wednesday-Friday 11am-3pm and Saturday 10am-4pm Also during the Winter we are open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays along with the Winter Farmers market.

Mission: The mission of the Volunteer Fireman’sHall and Museum of Kingston is to further the interest in the firefighting history of the City of Kingston/ County of Ulster and to aid in the preservation, distribution and sharing of this knowledge.

Rapid Hose Parade Carriage photo dating back to the mid 1880s. This was when the building was shared with Protector Engine Company #4. For those that have seen the fire houses that where built n the mid 1800s you would have noticed that other than a few minor differences they all look the same. Rapid Hose is the only one that was built with 3 floors. The top 2 were for the 2 companies so they each had meeting space

A couple of interesting photos that show the back of our museum from approximately 1900. in the first picture if you look to the right of the monument you can see the back of the museum with what was at the time the hose drying tower. it is also visible lower left hand corner to the back of the church. The tower was taken down around 1907.

George Weber was Chief Engineer of the Kingston Fire Department till early 1882. We have a complete copy of his report on the fire department for 1880. These are just a few pages of the report. We will be having the statue restored this year. The statue dates back to 1882 and at 138 years old he is do for some special care.

We would like to thank all of our visitors and supporters for making this past year a success for the museum and look forward to an exciting 2020. We are working on several new exhibits for the upcoming year along with planning a major restoration project on our building. We will be open every other Saturday through the winter from !0am to 2pm starting January 4th. The remaining dates are

January 18th
February 1st,15th and 29th
March 14th and 28th.

We look forward to seeing you then

A brief history of Weiner Hose Company. The photo is of their original location on Hasbrouck Ave early 1900s. They relocated to West O' Reilly St after the fire house was completed there in 1908. The uniform and meeting reminder card belonged to James Wood.

My Dad was a member of your department back in the 1940's I have little info to share on his service, I am a retire firefighter myself and would like to research this subject. Most of our famly from kingston have passed any info would be helpful [email protected].
