One of my favorite things about working with clay is the way the materials reveal themselves after firing.

In this piece, rusty brown undertones emerge through a deep charcoal surface, creating warmth and depth beneath the geometric pattern. The interaction between clay and glaze produces subtle shifts in color and texture, giving the surface a character all its own.

It's a reminder that while I can carefully plan the form, pattern, and glaze, the firing process always plays a role in the finished piece.

That's part of the beauty of handmade ceramics. No two surfaces are ever exactly alike.

------------Come a little closer.

From a distance, the pattern wraps around this bowl as a whole. Up close, each square has its own character—the warm orange, the bright yellow-green, the soft pale shapes, and the marks left by the making.

That’s one of my favorite things about handmade pottery: there’s always more to notice when you live with it.

Autumn evenings are upon us. The light fades a little earlier now, and on our way out, we caught the shop looking especially beautiful from the street.
There’s something comforting about seeing the pottery and photography glowing through the windows. If you’re walking by one evening, take a peek.

This large red-clay form is part of my continuing exploration of presence.
I’ve been looking for ways to create tension within a shape—the full, rounded body meeting a smaller, more architectural top; weight balanced against restraint; curves interrupted by sharper lines. When those opposing qualities hold together, the form begins to feel more substantial and alive.
The piece is still in progress, but the tension is beginning to give it the presence I was looking for.
