September 1978, a group of concerned citizens gathered at the old MKT depot after hearing of the railroad companies plans to demolish/ auction it off.

These great volunteers created the Katy Heritage Society to save that structure and it worked!

Over the years, this nonprofit has kept the MKT Katy Depot as one of the finest examples of early MKT depots anywhere, as well as adding the caboose to Katy Railroad Park and structures at Katy Heritage Park.

Join today for $25 a year per family to help us continue our mission.
