We had a fun, messy afternoon in the studio today with Airzoo STEAM Camp middle school students, part 2 of a 3-part book project! 🔥
1. Earlier this week, they were here making handmade paper for their books
2. Today, they experimented with paste painting for their cover paper, and carved stamps for the endpages
3. Tomorrow, Katie and our interns will be at Airzoo to lead them through the book-binding process! 🤩

Call for Printmakers!
The KBAC is looking for printmakers to participate in our Poets in Print broadside series. Since 2008 the KBAC has hosted poetry readings in our gallery and have produced over 170 broadsides that combine a handset poem with printed image produced by an artist.
We are looking for printmakers to making a linocut (or other printmaking technique) in response to poems provided by our readers. Artists mail us a piece of carved linoleum which we print in our studio along with the poem which we will handset using movable type. If the artist doesn’t work in linoleum they can provide a stack of printed images, and we will print the type. We will provide postage, linoleum and paper, as well as a small stipend. After the reading the poet and the artist each get three copies of the broadside and we sell the rest in our store and online.
If you are interested, please email [email protected] with examples of your printmaking work.

Just one week left to see the beautiful woodcut prints of Toru Sugita in the KBAC gallery!

👉 "Toru Sugita: Prints" is on view through June 19, but please be aware that the gallery will be unavailable for viewing on Tuesday and Thursday between 1-4 PM for onsite educational programming. 👈

Originally from Japan, Toru Sugita is an artist and professor who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is known for his black and white intaglio and wood engraving prints with strong architectural elements. Toru's original work is also a part of a KBAC limited-edition book, “A Brief History of Falling,” by Traci Brimhall, released in May! This beautiful book, available in hardcover and softcover editions, is on display in the gallery alongside Toru's prints and is available for purchase through our online and KBAC store.
