CONGRATULATIONS to North Fork artist PAT FEILER for having your painting selected for this week’s DAN’S PAPERS cover.
And THANK YOU to Dan's Papers for choosing “Sail Away” (24x36”, Acrylic on Gallery Canvas) as the 36th Annual Greenport Maritime Festival kicks off today in Greenport Village & Mitchell Park.
The event runs through this weekend.
Also BRAVO to the organizers of the annual event!
They include four Greenport business owners who sprung into action to produce the festival: Sarah Phillips of First & South Bar & Restaurant, Kimberly Loper of Harbor Pet, Rena Wilhelm of The Weathered Barn and Kara Hoblin of the North Fork Art Collective.
In the artist’s words:
“Art and music are literally part of my DNA. My extended family is well known in the community as music educators and performers. My own interest in art began at an early age. As a child I was fascinated by drawings and paintings by my uncle, Richard Nast Osborne, a professional artist. I tried to copy illustrations he created for books written by my father, Chester Gorham Osborne. His seven historical fiction stories for young people are presently part of the
Center Moriches library collection.
I would describe my paintings as Impressionist in nature. Over time I have begun painting with less detail, less information, leaving space for the viewer to bring their own experiences and interpretations to the work. There is a familiar rhythm in the movement of my brush across the canvas. I have to stand back to really see my paintings, but I hear them with every brush stroke”
