Currently on view: A Road in the Air by Lance Letscher. Beginning with the materials, Letscher’s process is one that is almost meditative. Vintage books, antique printmaking papers, and found printed matter are carefully cut with a blade beneath a magnifying lens. From these fragments, the artist constructs his compositions intuitively, guided by formal concerns such as light, line, balance, and perspective. Dense with detail yet visually expansive, the collages in A Road in the Air reward slow looking, inviting viewers to linger and discover the subtle relationships between image, material, and space.

Currently on view: Fuzzy Logic by Berlin-based artist Astrid Köppe. The exhibition’s title refers to the state of cognitive dissonance viewers often experience while looking at Köppe’s subjects. Presented with the precision of scientific or anatomical illustrations, the forms appear as though they should represent something specific, yet their identity remains elusive. The result is a tension between certainty and ambiguity, and for Köppe, this moment of confusion is valuable: it prompts closer looking and opens the possibility of seeing ordinary things in new ways.

While Vicki Sher’s compositions are abstract, they remain wholly tethered to the natural world. Shapes reminiscent of branches, leaves, and landscapes emerge within invented arrangements of line and geometry. A work may begin as an intuitive composition, but is finished when it subtly recalls something familiar: a landscape, a memory, or a form encountered in nature. In this way, her paintings exist in a space between invention and recognition.

Now on View: Fuzzy Logic by Astrid Köppe.

Working at an intimate scale, Köppe’s drawings often begin with careful observation of the ordinary. Rather than working directly from photographs, she carries mental snapshots of objects and forms encountered in everyday life until they are filtered through memory and reinterpreted on the page. The resulting images are rendered with striking clarity while resisting easy identification. Köppe intentionally avoids titles, encouraging viewers to rely on their own perception and imagination when encountering the work.

Now on View: A Road in the Air by Lance Letscher.

Throughout the exhibition, images of flight appear alongside other recurring motifs, including candles, landscapes, and scenes touched by fire. Several works, such as House on Fire and Earthquake with Fire, reference natural disasters and moments of catastrophe, themes the artist began exploring during the years following the COVID-19 pandemic. While fire acts as an agent of destruction in these pieces, it is also a symbolic force in others: a power that suggests transformation, creative energy, or a supernatural, almost spiritual presence, as seen in Flaming Hand or Candle Book. Although lacking in an overtly religious message, works like Rock Garden and Gold Nugget carry a subtle sense of awe and reverence that emerges through the materials themselves, such as gold leaf.
