With a career spanning more than three decades, Dennis Lyall has built an extraordinary legacy in American art and illustration.

A native of Iowa and graduate of the University of Kansas, Dennis earned early recognition when he was awarded a Gold Medal by the Society of Illustrators while still a student.

Throughout his career, his paintings have been commissioned by some of America’s most prominent advertisers and publishers. He is perhaps especially recognized for his work with the U.S. Postal Service, which has issued 34 postage stamps featuring his designs—placing his artwork in the hands of millions of Americans.

An accomplished portrait artist as well, Dennis’s paintings can be found in private collections, and his dedication to the arts has extended beyond the studio through his service on the Board of Directors of the Society of Illustrators in New York City.

For artist Matt Atkinson , painting the American West is about more than capturing a place—it’s about preserving the people, traditions, and stories that give it meaning.

His traditional realist paintings span the West of yesterday and today, portraying old-time saddle makers, master craftsmen, Native American elders and warriors, and the men and women who continue to carry generations of knowledge forward.

There is also a deeply personal connection woven into every canvas Matt paints.

He still uses brushes and paints inherited from his grandmother, a wise and compassionate elder whose influence remains part of his artistic life. When she passed, brushes beside her easel still held paint, as though waiting for her return. Today, Matt uses those same tools in his own paintings—creating a tangible connection between generations and the heritage that inspires his work.

Matt’s path to becoming a full-time artist has been equally distinctive. His background in the behavioral sciences includes award-winning books on trauma, advanced academic study, teaching, counseling, and years of work alongside Native American communities.

Through his work as a program director, consultant, volunteer chaplain, educator, and cultural and anti-violence trainer, he developed lasting relationships with traditional leaders and elders across the country.

That experience gives his paintings something that goes beyond technical realism.
