ArtMix ArtMix (formerly VSA Indiana) ArtMix transforms the lives of people with disabilities through the creation of art.

We fulfill our mission through a series of arts programs led by 20+ professional Teaching Artists who provide programming in schools, community centers, hospitals, and on-site in our adaptive arts studios. As a statewide nonprofit, ArtMix partners with people and organizations around the state to provide local access to accessible arts. Ongoing partnerships are currently based in Columbus, Evansvi

lle, and Muncie. Collectively these programs serve more than 6,000 people annually. Our primary focus is people with disabilities, however, we take an inclusive approach to implement programs and include a variety of people with and without disabilities.

Community Classes are in full swing!

This past week, our Youth Exploratory Mixed Media celebrated the art of Yayoi Kusama. We are so thankful for our Teaching Artists who share their knowledge and reverence for great artists with our students.

Meanwhile, our Youth Exploratory Clay class was hard at work on designing mugs. Students practiced stamping and forming their pieces.

Takeaways from LEAD Conference 2026 🎨💡

Earlier this month, Britt, Mandie, and Omar represented ArtMix at the LEAD Conference in Philadelphia, where they spent time learning about new approaches to accessibility in the arts.

For Mandie, some of the biggest takeaways included:
-Creating comfortable spaces for neurodiverse individuals
-Designing accessible graphics and maps
-Exploring tactile graphics and 3D objects for people who are blind or have low vision
-Finding new ways for educators and organizations to collaborate

Mandie also shared that being able to share meals, visit museums, attend sessions, and unpack these ideas along with ArtMix team members was one of the best parts of this conference!

We're excited to see how these new ideas translate into their work!

🎨 3 Weeks Until Arts for All Fest! 🎨

On September 19th from 12pm-4pm, ArtMix will host Arts for All Fest, our largest annual event and fundraiser. The studios will have free art activities, music and resource tables will fill the Speck Gallery, plus tie-dye, food, and dancing out in the courtyard!

Earlier this summer, you all voted on a T-Shirt design created by our students. We combined the top two winning designs and will have the shirts for sale during the event!

Mama, Build Your Nest 🪺

Next week during September First Friday, we're celebrating the opening of Kei'Anna N.S.A.'s newest exhibition at ArtMix!

Inspired by nesting, generational wisdom, and the idea of home, Kei'Anna's fiber and printmaking works explore what we carry with us and what we pass on to the generations that follow.

Through layers of texture, pattern, fabric, and fiber, her work creates spaces that feel both protective and deeply personal.

MEET THE COHORT

Today marked the first studio day of Enroute: ArtMix Studio Fellowship, our new pilot program for emerging artists with disabilities ages 18+ 👨‍🎨

This cohort was selected through jury and we are so excited to welcome these talented artists to the program 🌟

For the next several weeks, the cohort will explore their artistic identities and develop their craft with support from our professional Teaching Artists!

Our first day in the studios was a success! Participants mingled, created goals for the program, received new headshots, and collaborated on a group art piece. In fact, the leaf stamps on this post were created by Enroute participants this afternoon!

Please join us in giving these artists a huge congratulations 🎉
