A Tidbit from the Past: In 1879 'City Fathers' the euphemism for city government approved a plan to dig an 8' deep sewer ditch in downtown Hudson from the Comstock Hotel (site of the Patriot's Memorial) to the west bank of Bean Creek. Thirty-one lot or bldg. owners on the line would pay for the work. Every form of waste imaginable would exit into Bean Creek. The posted letter to the editor raises some concerns about the plan. Read the sentence about baptisms near the proposed discharge point & imagine for yourself the smell at the Main Street bridge. The complaint letter was written in April. By May the work was done by contractors Van Akin & Wright, so the filth could flow.
