🚩 Ever Wonder What Those Colored Flags Around Town Mean?

You may have noticed small, brightly colored flags and painted markings popping up along streets, sidewalks, and properties around Hudson. But what do all those colors mean?

These markings are used to identify the location and type of underground utilities before work begins.

⚪ White – Proposed excavation
🔴 Pink – Temporary survey markings
🔴 Red – Electric power lines, cables, conduit and lighting cables
🟡 Yellow – Gas, oil, steam, petroleum or other gaseous materials
🟠 Orange – Communication, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduit
🔵 Blue – Potable water
🟣 Purple – Reclaimed water, irrigation and slurry lines
🟢 Green – Sewers and drain lines

📍 Why are the flags there?
Before excavation or utility work begins, the appropriate areas are marked so workers can identify underground utilities and help prevent damage to important infrastructure.

Flags and markings will be placed at least three days before the scheduled work begins. So, if you see colorful flags around town, they are there for a reason!
