The Gite Gallery is a commercial art gallery that features beautiful and original paintings, hand carved wooden statues, bronze sculptures, tribal masks and hats, brightly colored textiles, vintage accent furniture and more, all from sub-Saharan Africa. Located in a charming two-story brick house built in 1943, The Gite Gallery has been described as one of the most elegant galleries in the United States and was voted Best Art Gallery by the Houston Press in 2014.

Hello Art Lovers,

Earlier this month, something happened that I didn't expect. Not one person showed up for our First Friday Happy Hour.

That has never happened before, and I would be lying if I said it didn’t worry me.

The Alabama Street bridge closure is having a real impact on The Gite Gallery. We have faced difficult seasons before, including the COVID shutdown, but this feels different. The bridge closure, combined with the current state of the economy, is taking a serious toll on small businesses like mine.

I want to thank everyone who continues to visit the gallery, purchase art, attend our events, and support the artists we represent. Your patronage means more than you know.

Please tell your friends, family, coworkers, and visitors about The Gite Gallery, especially anyone who will be in Houston for the FIFA World Cup. Help us reach new audiences who love original art, culture, and meaningful experiences.

The Gite Gallery has always been more than a place to buy art. It is a place where people gather, connect, and celebrate creativity. With your help, we can continue sharing this space with Houston and with visitors from around the world.
