San Jacinto College South Campus Gallery

09/28/2026

Looking for a quick break between classes? Join the San Jacinto College South Campus Gallery for Art Bites, a new weekly series of short, casual talks about art presented by different faculty members.

Each week, a faculty member shares the artists, artworks, and stories that inspired them to pursue a creative career — and what keeps them curious, productive, and excited about art today.

You don’t need to be an art student, or already know a lot about art. Art Bites is a chance to take a break, discover something new, and get to know members of our faculty as artists, teachers, and creative thinkers.

Snacks are included — chips, cookies, and other treats while supplies last!

CAMARO LUCINDA
Justin Plakas
August 31 – December 3, 2026
Opening Reception: Wed., Sep. 9 | 2–5 PM

We’re thrilled to welcome Justin Plakas to the San Jacinto College South Campus Gallery for “Camaro Lucinda”, a solo exhibition of new sculpture and video-based work.

Bringing together cast concrete, salvaged wood, painted panels, handmade props, and video, Camaro Lucinda uses humor as a way into difficult subjects—perception, memory, impermanence, and death. Plakas combines digital technologies with handcrafted processes to create immersive works that are playful and absurd on the surface, while opening into quieter reflections on mortality, entropy, and the strange contradictions of everyday life.

As Plakas puts it, humor and grief often exist side by side: “you gotta laugh to keep from crying.”

Admission is free and open to the public.
