Along with Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann is considered a major figure of New York Pop art. He rejected the principles of Abstract Expressionism and made bold paintings and inventive sculpture—both cut-metal works and assemblages—which riff on pop culture and art historical compositions. Women were a constant source of inspiration: Wesselmann’s most famous series, “Great American Nude” (1961–73), channels the brazen energy of American advertising and features flat, faceless female figures whom the artist often situated among stars and stripes. Educated at Cooper Union and the Art
Academy of Cincinnati, Wesselmann got his start selling cartoons to magazines, newspapers, and ad agencies before he found success as a fine artist. Today, he’s represented in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Guggenheim
Abu Dhabi, among other institutions. At auction, his work frequently sells for
seven figures.

David Hockney is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and of the British pop art movement. A painter, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer, his unmistakable style breaks boundaries both in the rules of art and across multiple artistic movements. Hockney died at his home in London on 11 June 2026, aged 88 Born in 1937 in Bradford, England he studied at the Royal College of Art, but did not graduate on account of declining to submit an essay along with his final work. In the 1960s, his bright, figurative paintings of Los Angeles swimming pools accompanied by Californian landscapes as well as personal subject matter including portraits of friends ignited his career. In 1963, at the age of 26, he had his first one-man show and in 1970 the White Chapel Gallery exhibited his first retrospective.
In the early 1980s, he began working in photocollage, or “joiners” as he called them, exploring movement and photography. In a recent 2016 exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, Hockney debuted a series of
works created on the iPhone and iPad exhibiting his love for technology.
Hockney is a highly celebrated artist receiving the First Annual Award of Achievement from the Archives of American Art, Los Angeles in 1993, the Lorenzo de’ Medici Lifetime Career Award of the Florence Biennale, Italy in 2003, and appointment to the Order of Merit by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 among many others. His work is also held amongst some of the most distinguished collections around the world including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Art School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Gallery London, Smithsonian American Art Museum, WashingtonD.C., Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.

CREATOR OF LETTERSCAPES
These bold, hard-edged geometric color field paintings continue Ron’s lifelong fascination with words and letterforms. Evolving out of his Notism work with the hieroglyphic scribbles and scrawls documenting memory fragments, each unique set of color blocks spells a word, using his own abstract alphabet to create precise letters that reference cities, people, events and emotions.

Artist Ramon Vilanova paintings have arrived here in Hinsdale.

Acclaimed by art critics represented in prominent and distinguished collections throughout Europe, Ramon Vilanova is one of the great landscape painters living in Europe. His works have brought him more than 30 1st place prizes in major competitions. His paintings are featured in the permanent collection of many museums, a further testament to the credibility and importance of this extraordinary artist.

Vilanova works exclusively “plein-air”, at that time and place, giving his compositions a special sensitivity, an emotional experience of the scene he has chosen to commit to canvas. He needs fully to experience the environment in order to paint, not just view the scene... He must smell the flowers… He must be caressed by the breezes... He must experience the light streaming and filtering through the foliage and against the backgrounds. The overall feel is critical to his ability to create his paintings. A photograph or remembrance will not suffice; only real life can fulfill the need.
