Open Letter to Hinckley Ohio Township:

I would like to introduce myself, Charles Gibson, your current President of the Hinckley Historical Society (HHS). This is my second tour of duty as President, following David Manley, who provided the HHS with several years of great leadership. Dave was instrumental in kicking off the initial planning for the 2025 Hinckley Ohio Bicentennial Celebration. This special event was a total success for our Hinckley community.

Our goal this year, in 2026, is to provide our membership with opportunities to participate in public meetings, where we will have some interesting historical topics discussed. This Spring, we will be hosting John Burke, who will reenact the history of Judge Hinckley, and his involvement with the establishment of Hinckley Township.

Our 2026 plans for the HHS building to be open to the public are as follows:

The 3rd Sunday, from March through October, from 1 pm to 4pm.
The 1st Tuesday, from April through October, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Appointments available by request.

Sincerely,

Charles Gibson, President

Hinckley's 69th Annual Buzzard Day celebration is the same date as "official" Buzzard Day! Be there!

Hinckley's quirky Buzzard Day returns March 15 with turkey vulture spotting, a pancake breakfast and a carnival.

Once known as Porter Hill- If you look all way to the end -
You can see Oviatt House.
Could this famous local steep hill one day be referred to as a Freedom Trail?
The Oviatt House was selected as one of 16 additions to the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program and recently selected for a prestigious award from the Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland.
Congratulations to our partner group!

Buzzard Sunday this year falls smack dab on official Buzzard Day, March 15, 2026!

Nice time for visitors to come to Hinckley Township, Ohio to celebrate with us! Look forward to welcoming you

Hey Donna Clegg King, we're thrilled you're making your debut voyage to the 69th Annual Buzzard Day festivities on March 15, 2026, all the way from Kansas!

This adventuresome spirit first learned of Buzzard Day in 1977 from her boss. She thought he was joking, so she wrote to the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce to see if it were true. The answer she received was a tee shirt (shown, in the 80's), brochures, and a very nice letter.

See that banner, "Happy Buzzard" - "Day" got left off because they ran out of printer paper!

Ever since, she has celebrated March 15 wherever she was in the world, vowing to one day come to Hinckley. 2026 is that year!

Can't wait to see you!
